Parody may be an intra-textual phenomenon, a form of "inter-art discourse", but it is far from being a language game cut off from the world. Although "parody's 'target' text is always another . . . form of coded discourse," this does not mean that "parody does not have ideological or even social implications". Whereas the mimesis of the traditional realistic novel-called the "readerly text" by Roland Barthes (Black friendship Valentine Bracelet) or the "egg-text" by David Lodge (126)-uses language mimetically to imitate reality objectively and uses muthos (Red and White and Black Valentine Bracelet) to consolidate the existing social , thereby imposing some sort of meaning onto otherwise meaningless facts, the modernist avant-garde novel severs the mythos from an irrecoverable world to evoke a highly subjective sphere.
